Roland C. Barksdale-Hall



Roland Barksdale-Hall, the president and co-founder of Jah Kente International,Inc. is a prophet, genealogist, librarian administrator, author and storyteller. He has served as a faculty member at the Samford Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research, the Africana Studies Department at Youngstown State University with an emphasis in cultural identities and literature. He is author of Under African Skies and Lion Pride. He has attained Senior Fellow in the American Society of Freedmen Descendants, recipient of the 2015 BCALA National Leadership Award and 2014 AAHGS James Dent Walker Award.

Barksdale-Hall’s book African American Family’s Guide to Tracing Our Roots: Healing, Understanding and Restoring Our Families was selected for the National Archives Ethnic Heritage Bibliography, is in its second printing, and is now available in a Kindle edition. He served as senior editor of the Journal of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society and managing editor of QBR: The Black Book Review. He has served on the editorial board for The Journal of Pan African Studies and Information Equality Africa. He is a contributor to numerous scholarly essays in encyclopedias, chapters in books and editor of a book Practicing Prevention: How to Be Healthy and Whole.
