Dr. Elsie. A Williams

Board Member

Dr. Elsie A. Williams has served on Jah Kente’s Board of Directors since its inception in 1997.  With a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Maryland, College Park, Professor Williams’s interests and scholarship are eclectic.  At the University of the District of Columbia where she currently teaches writing and literature, including the African Presence in Shakespeare, Dr. Williams’s teaching focus is always both student-centered and culture-centered.  The University’s yearly celebration of the Official Black History Month in February has claimed Dr. Williams’s fervent commitment as chairperson.

Professor Williams’s other significant commitments are to revising her book-length study on the Humor of Jackie “Moms” Mabley, serving on the Hurston-Wright Advisory Board, and as advisor to the UDC Chapter 1521 of Phi Delta Kappa International.
